Q: Hi, I heard that one can take a bus from Hong kong to shantou. How can I book it and what is the fare?
A: You can first travel from Hong Kong by bus or train to either Shenzhen or Guangzhou and then go from there. Shenzhen is the shorter way. You cross border at Luohu border check point to get to Shenzhen, and once you were on the Shenzhen side, you should be able to find buses that go to Shantou. Buses leave for Shantou frequently. Ride time is 4-5 hours. Guangzhou is about two hours away from Hong Kong. The bus ride from Guangzhou to Shantou is about one hour longer than the bus ride from Shenzhen to Shantou. Bus ride costs about 180 Chinese dollars. You can also travel by train from Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Shantou. It takes a couple of hours longer to get to Shantou. There are also ferry services between Hong Kong and Shantou.
