Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: What is the distance between Guangzhou and Dongguan?
| | A: The distance between Dongguan and Guangzhou is 90 kilometers (60 miles). The two places are linked by coaches and trains. Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province and Dongguan is a city on the prefectural level in Guangdong Province. The city is located southwest of Guangzhou. If one travels from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, one first goes through the city of Shenzhen, then Dongguan, and then arrives in Guangzhou. is located en route from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. Dongguan is best known for a high concentration of factories producing consumer goods for both exportation and domestic market. Consisted of 32 districts and townships, the city has theorectical population of 1.5 million (people who are officially local residents), which dwarfed by the number of people who have come from other parts of China to work there, mostly people from rural areas to work in the factories. It is estimated that about 6 million people belong to the latter category. So the population in the whole (not just the municipal) area of Dongguang is around 9 million. Quite a boom town!
