Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Is it possible to make a deposit now in order to reserve a hotel room for the Olympics and if so what hotel?
| | A: The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games maintains a list of hotels that serve the guests for the games. So far over a hundred hotels in Beijing, ranging from five stars to three stars, have been identified and designated as "official hotels" for the 2008 Olympic Games. Other hotels will will follow guidelines governing these official hotels.
According to some reports, some hotels were taking down names of guests who want to make reservations as hotels waited for final words on hotel rates for 2008.
Beijing Tourism Administration recently provided guidelines on hotel rates during the games. It is said that hotel rates during the Beijing Olympic Games will be 1.4-1.6 times higher than current rates. This means that a room in a three star hotel may cost approximately US $170, a room in a four star hotel may cost $270 and a room in a five star hotel, about $350. According to some other reports, however, officially hotel registration for the 2008 games will only start in early 2007.
