Q: Thank you for your answers. It is ver great to have this web which is a good help for us. I wish to know if there any small apprtements for rent for a short time of 2 months in linyi? Or if there any estate brokers there? If i stay in a privat apprtement must I inform the local police about my place of residence? Is it dangerious for me to stay in an privat appartement? Thank you.
| | A: There real estate services in Linyi, but it is very unlikely that you can count on them, due to the language barrier an due to the fact that what they've got are probably not the kind of apartments you want to take, quality wise. Individuals rent their apartments, too, but again, to the locals. And safety is an issue. Thieves may simply assume a Westerner must have quite some money and valueables with him. Safety is most important thing, isn't it.
If you want to, you can try two sources to see if you get some info. on what you need. One, foreigners in Linyi. There seem to be some of them in the city (there have been sightings of them in some supermarkets!). If you get to know any of them, ask them; they should know one or two things about this if they have been there some time. More specifically, there seem to be foreign English teachers at Linyi Normal College (Linyi Shifan Xueyuan). The college has a school of foreign languages.
Another possible source is the city's Foreign Affairs Service Center (Linyi Waishi Fuwu Zhongxin). This is a for-profit company run by the city government (how about that), mostly providing services to Chinese who're going abroad but also, allegedly, working for foreigners in Linyi. This particular center seems to be located in the city government compound, on Jinqueshan Road (Jinqueshan Lu), so people should know where it is. Their telephone no. is 8308130.
Official regulations now allow foreigners to stay at private residences of Chinese indiviuals or those of fellow-foreigners. But the hosts are required to register the guest with the local office of the Public Security Bureau within 24 hours of the guest's arrival (in countryside, it is 72 horus).
