Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: How much would it cost to go to the Beijing Zoo for about half the day?

A: The admission to the Beijing Zoo is inexpensive - 20 Chinese dollars or so. You can buy an admission ticket that includes the panda house or you pay for it separately; still not much. The Aquarium costs more, 100 Chinese dollars for an adult and about half of that for students (with their identifications; don't know what is expected of foreign tourists with youngsters). An adult can bring in two kids under the height of 1.2 meter for free.

Beijing zoo is located what used to be the northwestern suburb of Beijing. Nowadays it is part of the city. It was rumored some time ago that it would be relocated, but nothing came out of it; it is unlikely that is going to happen, certainly not before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The zoo was originally founded in 1906, toward the end of the Qing era, China's last imperial dynasty.
