Q: How far is Shanghai to Yiwu, Yiwu to Wenzhou, and Wenzhou to Shanghai? I will be in Shanghai in March 2007, I need English speaking guide. Is there any company who provide guide?
A: Yiwu is about 340 km from Shanghai. It takes about six hours to get from Shanghai to Yiwu. The distance between Yiwu and Wenzhou is about 300 km. It takes about five to six hours to travel between these two cities. As for English interpreters, it should be to difficult to find them in Shanghai. There are Chinese companies that serve as purchasing agents for foreign businesses, and there are also young Chinese such as college students who'd be happy to work (and practice their English!). The important thing is to find people who are dependable, who can not only effectively translate for you but also know something about your business and help you with interacting with local people. You may have to do a little research on this.
