Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Can my husband wear mens walk shorts and socks during the day when visiting China?
| | A: Casual clothing such as walk shorts, t-shirts, etc., are acceptable and should not be a problem for foreign tourists in China. They are all right unless they're particularly provocative in some ways (shorts too short in females' case, for instance), or if one is traveling in very remote countryside where people rarely see any foreigners, or if one is attending some formal events such as business meetings. Generally the Chinese are not very big on dressing codes and you'll find all levels of dressing up or dressing down. In fact, young Chinese nowadays are quite aggressive in following new fashions, especially the girls. In terms of established rules on clothing, the Chinese are not very concrete or specific. Comfort should be a major consideration (with regard to weather, road conditions, etc.)
