Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: I would like to know the distance from GUANZHOU to SHANGHAI, from GUANZHOU to HONG KONG, AND FROM SHANGHAI to HONG KONG.

A: "Guanzhou" is probably a typo on your part. You probably meant one of these two cities - Guangzhou or Quanzhou. Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province and is located just two hours away from Hong Kong. Quanzhou is a smaller city, also on the coast, but is Fujian Province, which is northwest of Guangdong Province. The distance between Guangzhou and Shanghai is approximately 1,700 kilometers or about 1,000 miles. Guangzhou to Hong Kong, as mentioned about, is about two hours' ride. Flight time between Shanghai and Guangzhou (and between Shanghai and Hong Kong) is a little over two hours.

As for Quanzhou, it is 800 km (480 miles) northwest of Guangzhou, by highway. No direct train services as Quanzhou is off main railways. From Shanghai, one travels southward for about 1,500 km (900) miles to reach Quanzhou. From Quanzhou to Hong Kong, it is 500 miles or so. The airport that serves Quanzhou is Jinjiang Airport, which is about an hour and a half away from central Quanzhou.
