Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: My flight leaves the Macau Airport at 10:50 am. My hotel (Hotel Fortune) is at Gongbei, Zhuhai. How long does it take to reach the Macau airport? I do not want to miss my flight.
| | A: To get to Macau Airport from Gongbei, you will go through the Gongbei border checkpoint and the customs. The checkpoint and customs are open from 7:30 am to midnight. How fast you can get across from mainland China to Macau depends on the date you travel and the hours of day (more people cross border on holidays and during the hours 8:00-10:00 and 5:00-7:00). Normally it takes no more than half an hour to get across the border. (It is said that those who are in a hurry can go to some travel agencies on the site, which, for a small fee, will make arrangements for you to use the express route). Once you're in Macau, you can either take a bus that goes to the airport (AP1) or a taxi. The bus will makes some stops on the way and, depending on traffic, can get to the airport in 40-50 minutes. It takes a taxi about 25 minutes to get to the airport from the border checkpoint. Suppose you are at the border checkpoint when the gates are opened early in the morning, you should have cleared the customs by 8:00 and arrive at Macau Airport before 9:00; that should give enough time to board your plane. Of course this is assuming that everything goes smoothly. In any event, double-check and make sure you have the up-to-date information.
