Answer to One China Travel Question
|
| | Q: Is tibettravel.org a reputable tour company?
| | A: If they're what they claim to be, namely a branch office of China International Travel Office, they're all right at least in terms of background and affiliation. China International Travel Service was founded in 1954, which, along with China Travel Service, used to be two largest state-owned tour operators in China. By their original charters, CTS focused on domestic tourism while CITS served foreign travelers who came to visit China. After the end of the Mao era and the beginning of the Deng reform, however, many other tour companies were created, by state and individuals, and CITS and CTS became two of the many businesses in China's booming travel industries. Today CITS owns and directly operates many subsidiaries, but some other travel companies seem to be on their own now, even though they still use the popular CITS brand name. The company behind tibettravel.org seems to fall into this second category. Unfortunately, some Chinese tour companies, out of their desire to market and promote themselves, maintain many online presences, a fact that makes it rather difficult to trace the real companies behind those websites. This practice undermines the confidence of their potential customers and is therefore counterproductive. If may want to simply contact the company in question and ask about their claimed connection to CITS.
