Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Hi i am Visiting Hong kong for 5 Days and i might go to china on a day trip , would i need a Visa?

A: Yes, you do need a visa. Hong Kong being a Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, citizens of many countries can visit without visa for various periods of time (up to 90 days in most cases). To enter China proper, however, one needs a visa. In fact, if you enter China proper from Hong Kong, return to Hong Kong, and want to go back to China proper, you need a double entry visa.

On the other hand, if you go on a short trip with a travel agency, the agency should be able take care of the visa issue for you. In that event, ask them about it. If you go on the trip on your own, you need to take of the visa issue first. It is relatively easy to get a China visa in Hong Kong. You can apply at the Hong Kong Office of China's Foreign Ministry or apply through China Trave Service, which is a semi-official travel agency of China that works closely with the Chinese government. If you rush your application (with a fee, of course - no free lunch), you can get your China visa in Hong Kong in one day.
