Answer to One China Travel Question

Q: Does Hong Kong airport have a more specific name than Hong Kong International Airport?

A: Hong Kong International Airport is located at Chek Lap Kok. Chek Lap Kok is rarely used to refer to the airport, which is simply known as Hong Hong International Airport. For those who pay attention to history, Hong Kong International Airport used to be located at Kai Tak. Built in 1928, Hong Kong International Airport at Kai Tak was closed in 1998, when it was replaced by the new airport at Chek Lap Kok. Many old pilots and travelers remember fondly the spetacular take-offs and landings at the old Kai Tak airport, which is closer to the residential areas of Kowloon. The new airport at Chek Lap Kok is farther away and has a more open envirtonment and greater service capacity.
